Mojo Music Raises $860.00 for Blues Skies for Children
Mojo Music Discount hosted our third annual Community Music Fest on Sunday, August 28th, at the
Boundary Bay Beer Garden in downtown Bellingham. The event, billed a "Celebration of Music in Whatcom County," featured
live music, an instrument "petting zoo," community tables, and a raffle for a Baby Taylor guitar!
100% of raffle proceeds were donated to Blue Skies for Children, a local non-profit whose vision is to provide a little
wish to every eligible child in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Their programs provide emotional support and basic life
essentials for homeless, low income and foster children.
Mojo School of Music Students took the stage with solo and ensemble performances, including hand
drummers, a classical guitar ensemble and the Mojo Drum Line. Then, teen rockers and Mojo friends "Odd Ones Out" took
the stage, capturing their audience with impressive rhythms and vocals. The lawn was transformed into a dance floor, and
the crowd begged for two encores. An impressive group of musicians, all under 16.
Meanwhile, kids lingered at the
Instrument Petting Zoo, which was facilitated by Meridian Middle School Instructor Sandy Rogers and Whatcom Symphony violinist
Laura Barnes. The younger ones colored or played with a variety of fun
percussion instruments, while older kids (and adults) got some direction and
advice on band and orchestra instruments.
Finally, the four o'clock hour was upon us. Odd Ones Out has roused the audience, and the crowd now
eagerly anticipated the drawing. Final numbers rolled in, and the $860.00 figure was announced. Tickets were brought to
the stage, and the winner announced: Emma, a long time student and friend of Mojo Music. Congratulations Emma!
Thanks to all who participated in our resource fair, including the Bellingham Ukulele Group,
Blue Skies for Children, Mountain View Luthier School, Music Together by the Bay, and the Whatcom Symphony. A very
special thanks to Boundary Bay Brewery, Taylor Guitars, and to each of you who participated in our Community Fest!
The day truly was a "celebration of music in Whatcom County!"
